KCTV reports that 48-year-old Carolyn Heckert was arrested in Missouri yesterday in connection with the 1989 slaying of Sarah Jo DeLeon, a 19-year-old college student whose body was discovered near railroad tracks in Kansas City, Kansas.
Advancements in DNA collection and testing technology prompted authorities to reopen the DeLeon case in 2014.
Investigators believe DeLeon’s murder could be related to another killing as well as a 1987 abduction, but did not say why they feel the cases may be related.
Heckert is being held on $1 million bond.
