CBS New York reports that a former New Jersey cop shot himself to death Saturday night following a car chase with police, which led officers to the discovery of his wife’s body inside the trunk of his vehicle.
Authorities say 61-year-old Franklin Osgood, once a Providence police officer, lost control of his car during the chase and ran off the road. Upon approaching the vehicle, cops found Osgood with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and discovered the body of his wife, Mary Jo Osgood, in the trunk.
Police located Osgood on the New Jersey Turnpike after being notified by his daughter that he was missing and distraught.
