Police Rule Homicide in Death of Ontario Female Found in West Quebec Woods

marielle-portelanceThe body discovered in a wooded area in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Quebec on Friday has been identified as 30-year-old Hawkesbury, Ontario resident Marielle Portelance, reports CBC Ottawa.

A man was with his young son when he found the body wrapped in a tarp or carpet near Chemin Scotch Friday evening.

Police believe Portelance died recently and are investigating her death as a homicide after receiving the results of an autopsy.

Former Providence Cop Kills Self Following Police Chase With Wife’s Body in Trunk

new_jersey_state_police_logoCBS New York reports that a former New Jersey cop shot himself to death Saturday night following a car chase with police, which led officers to the discovery of his wife’s body inside the trunk of his vehicle.

Authorities say 61-year-old Franklin Osgood, once a Providence police officer, lost control of his car during the chase and ran off the road. Upon approaching the vehicle, cops found Osgood with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and discovered the body of his wife, Mary Jo Osgood, in the trunk.

Police located Osgood on the New Jersey Turnpike after being notified by his daughter that he was missing and distraught.

Documents: Suspect in Sierah Joughin Murder Kept Hidden Room

sierah_joughinCBSNews.com reports that investigators have discovered a hidden room containing restraints inside a barn belonging to 57-year-old James Worley – who is charged with abducting and murdering University of Toledo student Sierah Joughin – according to search warrants.

20-year-old Joughin disappeared last week while riding her bicycle.

Documents reportedly show that the secret room also had a carpet-lined freezer with blood inside.

Authorities are investigating the possibility of additional victims connected to Worley.

Mother of Victim Connected to “Long Island Serial Killer” Case Murdered, Daughter Charged

sarra_gilbertThe Huffington Post reports that 52-year-old Mari Gilbert was found dead Saturday in her Ellenville, New York home. The victim’s daughter, Sarra Gilbert, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Mari Gilbert is the mother of Shannan Gilbert, an escort whose mysterious death in 2010 led investigators to the discovery of ten other bodies along Long Island’s Gilgo Beach in what some have dubbed the “Long Island Serial Killer” case. No arrests have been made in that investigation and authorities say they do not believe Shannan’s death is related to the other victims, all of whom were connected to the sex trade.

Two Dead in Mass Shooting at Florida Nightclub Youth Party

club_blu_logoWINK-TV reports that at least two people are dead and nearly twenty others injured in a mass shooting during a party marketed at 12 to 17-year-olds last night at Club Blu in Fort Myers, Florida.

Three suspects have been detained thus far in relation to the incident, which reportedly occurred in the parking lot of the club. The motive for the shooting is unknown, but Club Blu posted a statement on Facebook saying the incident took place as parents arrived to pick the children up.

California Governor Denies Parole to Former Manson Family Member

leslie_van_houtenThe Los Angeles Times reports that Leslie Van Houten, who was convicted along with other members of Charles Manson’s infamous “Family” in the 1969 murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, has been denied parole by California Governor Jerry Brown.

Brown stated that Van Houten posed “an unreasonable danger to society if released from prison.”

A two-member California review board had granted parole to Van Houten this past April.
