CBC News reports that suicide bomb attacks in Syria today have left 148 people dead and at least 200 more wounded. The blasts occurred in Jableh and Tartous in the government-controlled territory that hosts Russian military bases.
Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the carnage in an online statement posted by the group‘s Amaq news agency. There were reportedly five suicide bombers in total, with other devices planted in vehicles.
One of the Jableh blasts occurred when a man walked into a hospital’s emergency department and blew himself up. Bus stations in Jableh and Tartous were also targeted.
