Newsday reports that Lonnie Franklin Jr., dubbed the “Grim Sleeper” serial killer, was convicted today in Los Angeles Superior Court in connection with the murders of ten women spanning two decades. The jury also found Franklin guilty on one count of attempted murder.
Franklin, a former garbage collector who also worked as a mechanic for the Los Angeles Police Department, could face the death penalty for the killings.
The slayings Franklin was convicted for began with the discovery of the first victim in 1985 and the last body in 2007. While there was a 14-year gap between discoveries of Franklin’s known victims, authorities believe he may have killed others during that period.
