Two Harford County sheriff’s deputies are dead after a gunman opened fire inside a Maryland shopping center restaurant today, reports CBS Baltimore.
The suspect has been identified as 67-year-old David Evans, who had several warrants out for his arrest. A sheriff’s deputy was called to the restaurant in response to a complaint of someone causing a problem. Evans shot the officer in the head when the sheriff’s deputy attempted interaction with him and proceeded to flee the scene.
A second sheriff’s deputy later caught up with Evans and gunfire was exchanged, leaving the suspect dead and the officer wounded. The sheriff’s deputy later died from his injuries.
No bystanders were harmed during the shootings. Authorities have not yet released a motive for the first murder.
