CBSNews.com reports that 42-year-old Ernesto Alonso was arrested Wednesday in connection with the strangling deaths of his employers, Dennis and Suzanne Duplantier. The couple’s bodies were discovered inside of their pickup truck on Monday at a truck stop in Hammond, Louisiana.
An arrest warrant states the couple was likely bound and assaulted at home until granting access to their safe. Police say they may have recovered tens of thousands of dollars belonging to the Duplantiers.
Authorities say evidence inside the home led them to identify Alonso as a suspect in addition to items uncovered during the arrest.
Alonso had reportedly been staying at the couple’s property and was occasionally hired to perform odd jobs for the Duplantiers. Alonso will be extradited to Baton Rouge, where he will be booked for first-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping.
Investigators are still searching for a possible accomplice.
