A suspect has been arrested in the 1970 murder of El Paso resident Doris Rivers. Willie James Johnson was arrested last month in connection with the killing and is now in a Madison County jail, where he is awaiting extradition.
The case heated up after Rivers’ granddaughter contacted investigators in 2013 seeking information about the murder. This prompted detectives to revisit the case and eventually matched Johnson’s DNA to fingernail clippings extracted from Rivers and stored as evidence at the time of the slaying.
